South Haven Waterfront Guide: Docks, Boat Lifts & Slip Options
From floating docks and drive-on boat systems to PWC ports and boat lifts, explore options for your South Haven waterfront or marina slip—and what to check before choosing a setup.

Every Waterfront Is Different
Maybe you're buying your first lake house. Maybe you've spent summers at the same property for decades. Or maybe your time on the water starts at a marina slip you own or rent. Around South Haven and Southwest Michigan, each setup comes with different questions.
For many waterfront and slip users, the question is how to make better use of the space they have. CanDock floating docks, drive-on boat systems, and PWC ports offer different ways to approach that. A conventional boat lift may be the better answer for other boats. The starting point is your watercraft and location.
Buying a Waterfront Home? Look Beyond the View
A dock and lift included with a home can feel like a bonus. Before you count on using them, take a closer look. Ask how old they are, who made them, and what maintenance or repairs have been done. Find model information if it's available.
Look for loose connections, damaged decking, bent parts, and signs that the dock isn't sitting evenly. If something seems unsafe, don't walk out just to test it. Have the equipment checked before using it or putting a boat on the lift.
Check whether the existing setup fits your boat's loaded weight, width, and length. Look at water depth, shoreline access, and room to board too. Equipment that worked for the previous owner may not suit your pontoon or leave room for your PWC.
You may be able to keep part of the setup and add a floating platform or port. Or a different system may make more sense. First understand what you have, then plan around what you want to do.
Already Own a Waterfront? Your Needs Can Change
You don't need to be a new homeowner to rethink your dock. A larger boat, a pair of personal watercraft, or more family visits can change what you need. Sometimes the problem is simply a narrow boarding area or nowhere comfortable to sit.
A CanDock layout can often be expanded or changed as needs evolve, depending on space and site conditions. You might add a sitting platform, create more boarding room, or plan a place for another watercraft. That flexibility can be useful when your waterfront changes over time.
Replacing everything isn't always necessary. We can look at whether a floating addition, drive-on system, or replacement lift fits alongside equipment you already own. The goal is a useful layout, not simply more dock.
Own or Rent a Slip? Explore Your Options
South Haven marina slip owners and renters may have more equipment options than they realize. CanDock drive-on boat systems, JetRoll PWC ports, and compatible boat lifts can open up new ways to store your watercraft and enjoy your time on the water. The right setup could make your slip work better for you.
Start with what you'd like to improve—easier PWC access, drive-on boat storage, or a lift that suits your boat. Bring us photos and measurements, and we'll explore how a system could fit your space and be securely anchored. Water depth, wave exposure, passing boat traffic, and installation access help guide the choice.
Before moving ahead, confirm the marina's permission, your ownership or rental rules, and any applicable permits. Shared access and space limits matter too. With those details in hand, we can help you plan around the opportunities your slip offers.

Lake Michigan Isn't the Same as an Inland Lake
South Haven has marina settings, sheltered waterfront areas, nearby inland lakes, and exposed Lake Michigan shoreline. These aren't interchangeable. Significant waves, ice movement, and changing water levels can make an open lakeshore very different from a protected slip.
CanDock floating docks and drive-on systems may be attractive at suitable sheltered or marina locations. That doesn't make them automatically appropriate for exposed Lake Michigan conditions. The same caution applies to conventional boat lifts: the site needs review before recommending equipment.
Even sheltered water needs planning. The bottom, water depth, seasonal changes, and wakes from passing boats affect placement and anchoring. A good plan accounts for what happens around the dock, not just how it looks on a calm day.
CanDock Floating Docks: Room to Adapt
CanDock uses connected floating modules to create walkways, platforms, and watercraft storage areas. The dock rises and falls with changing water levels rather than resting on fixed legs. Proper anchoring keeps the layout in place while allowing that movement.
For someone exploring South Haven floating docks, that can mean more ways to shape waterfront access around an existing slip or shoreline. Modules can often be added or rearranged later, provided the space, anchoring, and site allow it.
Explore our floating dock options to picture walkways, boarding areas, and platforms. Then think about where people will step on, sit, and reach their watercraft. Those everyday details help shape the layout.
Drive-On Boat Storage: A Different Approach
CanDock's V-Cube drive-on systems let compatible boats drive onto a floating platform for storage above the water. For the right boat and location, that offers an alternative to a conventional lift—not a replacement for every kind of boat lift.
Some configurations can support compatible boats up to approximately 6,000 pounds, depending on the complete design, added support, and site conditions. Weight alone doesn't establish a match. The boat's shape, dimensions, and the exact system all matter.
Conventional pontoons and tritoons aren't suitable for these drive-on systems. Compatible Sea-Doo Switch models may be an exception, but the specific model still needs checking. Send us your boat details before assuming drive-on storage will work.
JetRoll Ports for Your PWC
A CanDock JetRoll port gives a personal watercraft its own drive-on storage space. Driving onto the port to park, then launching when you're ready, can make retrieving and using your PWC more convenient.
JetRoll can be independently anchored as a standalone system or connected to a compatible dock setup. Space, anchoring, and site requirements guide the choice. Our PWC ports page shows options for waterfront owners and slip users who have permission to install equipment.
When a Boat Lift Is the Better Fit
For pontoons, tritoons, and other boats that don't suit drive-on storage, a properly selected ShoreStation or FLOE lift can be an excellent option. Choose the capacity, dimensions, boat supports, and lift design around both the boat and location. Our boat lift options can help start that discussion.
Traditional dock systems still have a place at suitable inland lake properties. ShoreStation, FLOE, and Twin Bay offer options there.
A Little Planning Now Helps Later
Start gathering information before you need new equipment. It doesn't have to be perfect. Clear photos and a few basic details give us a much better starting point than guessing from the length of your shoreline.
- Your boat's make, model, loaded weight, and dimensions.
- Water depth and what you know about the lake or river bottom.
- Available shoreline or slip space and access for delivery.
- The brand, model, and condition of any existing dock or lift.
- Marina rules, ownership restrictions, and applicable approval requirements.
- Photos showing the waterfront, existing equipment, and boarding area.
This helps us ask better questions, recommend a suitable system, and prepare a quote around your actual project. For local equipment and planning information, visit our South Haven docks and boat lifts page. It's the next step when you're ready to move from ideas to options.
