The Right Lift for Your Boat & Waterfront

Choosing a boat lift involves more than matching a weight capacity. Beach Bumz Marine helps Michigan boat owners choose and configure ShoreStation and FLOE lifts around the boat, waterfront, water depth, and how they use the lake.

A Boat Lift Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

Two neighbors on the same lake can need two very different lifts. The boat matters, and so does the water it sits in.

Picking a lift by advertised capacity alone is how people end up with equipment that technically holds the boat but is awkward to use. The pieces that actually decide the right lift are usually simple to talk through:

  • Boat type
  • Actual loaded boat weight
  • Beam / width
  • Hull design
  • Water depth
  • Lake-bottom conditions
  • Desired canopy coverage
  • Manual vs powered operation
  • Waterfront configuration

You don't need to have every detail figured out before contacting us. We'll walk through the boat, waterfront, and how you plan to use the lift to help determine the right setup.

The Details

What Goes Into the Right Boat Lift?

Six things we look at with every customer before recommending a lift.

Boat Weight

A lift needs enough capacity for the boat the way you actually use it — motor, fuel, batteries, gear, and accessories all add up. Published dry weight is a starting point, not the whole picture.

Boat Width & Hull

Beam, hull shape, pontoons and tritoons, wake and surf hulls, and deep-V designs all affect how wide the lift needs to be and how the bunks or supports should be configured.

Water Depth

The depth you have at the lift location influences which lift makes sense, where it is positioned, and how it is set up so the boat loads and unloads comfortably.

Lake Bottom

Sand, muck, gravel, and rock behave differently underfoot. Bottom conditions can influence installation, footing, and how the lift is positioned and leveled.

Canopy Coverage

A properly sized canopy helps shield the boat from sun, weather, and falling debris while it sits at the dock — and canopy size needs to suit the boat, not the other way around.

Convenience

Manual, electric, and hydraulic operating systems all change how the lift feels day to day. We talk through what is available for your application and how you plan to use it.

Lifts for the Boats Michigan Loves

Different boats ask different things of a lift. Here is how we think about the most common ones on our lakes.

Pontoon and tritoon boats raised on covered lifts beside an aluminum lake dock

Pontoon & Tritoon

Pontoon and tritoon lifts need to be sized for overall loaded weight, width, and the right support configuration for the tubes — a third tube and heavier power packages change the requirements.

Wake & Surf Boats

Wake and surf boats are heavy, especially with ballast systems and gear on board. Capacity, hull support, lift width, and available water depth all deserve careful attention.

Fishing Boats

From small aluminum boats to fully rigged fiberglass rigs, the lift configuration should match the hull design, the size of the boat, and the conditions at your waterfront.

Runabouts & Bowriders

Proper capacity and a bunk or cradle configuration matched to the hull help support the boat the way it should be supported through the season.

Boat Lift Questions We Hear Often

Boat Lifts for Michigan Waterfronts

Beach Bumz Marine is based in Paw Paw, Michigan, and provides docks and boat lifts across Southwest Michigan. Much of our work happens on inland Michigan lakes, where water depth, bottom conditions, seasonal use, boat type, and shoreline configuration all influence which lift makes sense.

We also handle the rest of the waterfront, so a lift can be planned alongside everything else you use out there — including CanDock floating docks, traditional sectional and roll-in docks, and Drive-On Systems. If you would rather talk it through first, our how it works section walks through how a project comes together.
